What is RCS?
What is RCS?
RCS is the next generation of SMS that enables branded, verified, and interactive messaging directly within the native messaging app. For nonprofits, unions, and advocacy organizations, it helps create more trusted and engaging supporter conversations through rich media, quick replies, and deeper engagement insights, without requiring any app downloads.

FAQs
Will my messages actually reach recipients — no carrier filtering?
Yes. RCS bypasses carrier filters entirely for most clients including Google Messages. Unlike 10DLC SMS, your messages are not subject to carrier-level filtering, resulting in significantly higher and more reliable delivery rates.
Does RCS work on iPhones, not just Android?
Yes. Apple added RCS support in iOS 18, released in late 2024. This means RCS now works across both iPhone and Android devices, covering the vast majority of smartphones in use today. Messages sent via CallHub’s RCS channel will reach iPhone users just as they do Android users — with the same rich formatting and reliable delivery.
How does RCS build trust compared to regular SMS?
RCS messages are sent from a verified sender profile — your organization’s name, logo, and brand color appear directly in the recipient’s message thread, not an anonymous number. This verification is backed by Google and the carrier network, so recipients know exactly who they’re hearing from before they even open the message. With SMS, anyone can spoof a number or use a generic short code. RCS makes impersonation significantly harder and gives your supporters a clear, credible signal of authenticity.
Can I see if my messages were delivered and read?
Yes. RCS provides native delivery and read receipts at the protocol level. In CallHub, you can see per-contact delivery status — whether a message was sent, delivered to the device, or read — directly in your campaign reporting. This gives you far more signal than SMS, where delivery confirmation is limited and read status is unavailable entirely.
What makes RCS more engaging than SMS?
RCS supports rich media — images, carousels, action buttons, and suggested replies — all rendered natively inside the default messaging app. There’s no link to tap, no app to download, and no browser redirect. Recipients can RSVP, donate, or confirm attendance directly from the message thread. This dramatically reduces friction compared to SMS, where engagement requires a separate click to an external page.
Is RCS fast enough for high-volume or time-sensitive sends?
Yes. CallHub’s RCS infrastructure is built for the same throughput demands as our SMS and voice channels. Whether you’re running a same-day GOTV push to tens of thousands of contacts or a last-minute fundraising appeal, RCS messages are dispatched with the same speed and queuing reliability as any other channel. Delivery is typically within seconds for online devices, with automatic fallback to SMS for contacts whose devices don’t yet support RCS.
