California Republicans followed former President Donald Trump’s lead by proposing to end taxes on tips. While Kamala Harris embraced the measure, California Democrats said no, shooting down the proposed amendment in the California Senate.

While I’m all for people not being taxed too much, the issue here seems to be a little more deeper.

First of all, the entire tipping culture (that doesn’t exist anywhere else) is a sly way for corporations to avoid paying minimum liveable wages to people and put the pressure back on us, the consumers. I’m all for tipping as a means of appreciation for good service, but not something mandatory that people can’t live without.

This amendment seemed like an easy way for corporations to continue putting the responsibility on the consumers. Why not just pay people a liveable minimum wage from your pockets? Why put it on the consumers, who, by the way, are also on the same boat. While I feel like the amendment would help minimum wage workers a lot, the intention is not positive at all. It’s just a distraction to safeguard the real culprits: The Corporations that save millions and billions by underpaying their staff.

    What do you all think?
